SECURE LENS OPENING

Once the lens is through smaller opening, you may gather the slack in the cord and secure it with the toggle, sealing out light that would enter from in front of the camera.

How loose or tight to make the collar is up to the photographer, as some camera controls such as manual focus and zoom rings are often close to the camera. Since the camera body itself acts much like a flange, blocking most of the light that would pass in around the edges of the opening, it doesn't absolutely need to be really tight.

Most people find it easier to operate the camera with the lens collar with a bit of space between the cloth and camera body to permit easy access to controls. When working in foul weather, it is best to move the neck out as far as possible on the lens so that the water-resistant fabric can protect it from moisture.
