WORKING IN WEATHER

So far, we've looked at the benefits to using the SLR style BLACKJACKET™ with a digital camera on a bright, sunny day. As a working professional, I find my most memorable images are made when the weather is "interesting." Fortunately, the SLR BLACKJACKET™ works well to protect my film camera in inclement weather, too. The photo below illustrates the SLR BLACKJACKET™ being used in blizzard conditions to protect my Pentax 6x7 while I waited for the image I wanted to make.

The small neck was pulled all the way out to the end of the lens to protect it from the snow and a Lee brand filter kept the snow from blowing on the front element of the lens. Periodically, I would crawl under the cloth and check on how things looked through the viewfinder. When I was ready to make the exposure, I pulled the filter out of its holder and began to work.

The roomy trunk also shaded the back of the camera from the weather making it possible to change film while it was snowing heavily. The focusing cloth's white fabric is water resistant, so moisture beads up and runs off. The result of my being able to operate in challenging conditions is the image on the right, which was made in the midst of the storm.
